Chinese New Year is in the air!

After the successful Santa's Castle in Xmas, 1 Utama sets out to surpass itself by having a darn impressive Chinese fortress in the Oval of the new wing. I think it's from the Tang Dynasty.

Pigging out in Melaka...

All about Melaka food in this posting. Some of the dishes I pigged on over the weekend. Here's my favourite daytime heekiaw mee, complete with teochew chilli sauce all over the noodles. I have a night favourite but that's another story...

At the pokok ketapang at the head of Tranquerah road, you have a quaint but ancient hawker centre. This place has 2 fishball vendors... this one is the one that comes later in the afternoon. Good nonetheless...

Here's the stuff I bought from him. Normally I can wallop RM10 worth of it but since I just had the heekiaw, I bought RM5 instead. You get fishballs, yamballs, fish skin fritters and slices of cucumber. Comes with teochew chilli and a sweet tnee-chio which is a type of syrup made from sugar and onions.

For supper, I had char tau kueh aka loh pak koh (radish cake) bought from Jonker Walk. Melaka style is normally blacker than its Penang counterpart because of the thick black sauce used.

Making A Statement

Bathing Ape - "Ape Shall Never Kill Ape" is a funky brand from Japan. I first heard of it when I saw a special edition G-Shock with the Bathing Ape (BApe) in some watch forum. So I was excited when I saw this at the Curve and bought it. Cute huh?

Kites And Wau

Kite exhibition at the concourse of Suria. Do have a look... they've got skilled wau/kite makers there doing their trade for all to see...

Kinda makes me miss the old Filem Negara Malaysia documentaries on RTM back in the 80s.

The Curve

An evening at the Curve... we had some pancakes at Paddington and a pleasant walk along this boulevard... nice place. It was late though and the main complex had closed. I hope the place isn't swarming with kids on Heelys during the day!

Stressful weeks...

It's been a tumultuous 2005 so far... stressful days at work and a million thought racing through my mind on a daily basis. I must admit, the situation's pretty fragile now and I guess I will have to take steps to alleviate whatever problems I have and at the very least, seek spiritual solace. It's hard but I gotta take it one step at a time. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.

Slow...

Sorry for the slow updates... been pretty tied up with some stuff lately but rest assured, my blog will be back on track once the weekend is past.

Take care!

Happy 2005!

The government cancelled all official celebrations for the new year but we were in the vicinity - holding a small quiet party in Grand Maya hotel.

A shot of the night's offerings. You can see multi coloured but heavily spiked 'fruit cocktails' in the making.

Here's my bottle of Heineken. We actually stopped by The Loft opposite the hotel for the countdown. To my surprise, the DJ there was my cousin. Never knew he was moonlighting as one. At the stroke of midnight (and after many warm SMS from my friends greeting the new year), I reflected on the past year and the year to come. I also thought about how I celebrated the past new year in Korea.

Subsequently, we returned to the hotel for more boozing and I stumbled home after that. One word of advice - don't drink and drive!

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a happy and prosperous 2005! And a moment of silence for the lives lost in Tsunami 2612...

South American Traditional Music

The 'Ekuador Inkas' performing at KLCC... at least I think that's what this group is called. They were there showcasing their brand of traditional and meditational Inca music which features the panpipes as well. Very soothing stuff and I could see a throng of people picking up the CDs during and after the show. According to a friend, this phenomenon is happening all over the world... seems like groups of these guys are touring.
