Thailand Day 3 - Part 2 Suvarnabhumi

Final post on my recent journey to the land of Smiles...

It was a spanking new airport (with lots of trouble according to the locals). Anyhow, the check in lines were long... MUCH longer than those at KLIA. After checking in, I proceeded to admire the interesting architecture of the airport...

Click on the picture below for the full gallery of this wondrous man made marvel...

It was twilight as I walked towards boarding - a tinge of sadness always accompanies me when I leave a foreign land and wonder about the daily life of the people I leave behind.

In any case, I dropped by a cute cosy corner of a restaurant called, appropriately enough, Asian Corner. Whacked some...

I cannot resist tod mun pla (fishcake)...

Of course rice is staple... this time with some fragrant tofu...

Went I got home, I looked at the spoils of my travels...

The dehydrated pineapple and mango were quite horrid though... too sweet and no fruity taste.

Until my next travels...

Thailand Day 3 - Part 1 Siam Paragon And Erawan

It was a humid Sunday morning. I decided to take the Skytrain to the famed Siam Paragon.

As usual, it was a hive of activity with loads of bargains at the Paragon Departmental Store...

Subsequently, we adjourned for some prayers at the 4-Faced Buddha Shrine at Erawan. It was a small shrine but people were thronging and the shrine was bustling with activity!

It was hot and we dropped by the nearby McDonalds where we saw Ronald doing the traditional Siamese Wai...

Ah pork...

Time passes quickly and soon it was off to the airport...

Thailand Day 2 - Part 2 Waterside

It was a long trip back to Bangkok after Ayuthaya and straight for an early dinner at Waterside Restaurant at Ram Inthra. As it was just before 6PM, the place was still quite empty...

The sun was just setting beautifully...

As you can see, Waterside is a beautiful restaurant on stilts... built on the shores of a small lake.

The Thais don't trust their tap water, so we often had bottled water...

And sometimes, even Singha!

Anyway we had some gorgeous seabass with nam pla (fish sauce) and chili dip...

Some thai otak otak (hor muk)...

Wonderful tod mun goong (prawn cakes) that were HUGE...

And of course, tomyam goong (tomyam with big head prawns). The gravy was thick with coconut milk and stuff that came from the prawn heads!

Waterside got really packed from 7pm onwards. The crowd was amazing and parking extended until the roadside/highway. People were queueing patiently for a table and the crowd had a lot of couples on dates too! No surprise since the restaurant had a stunning setting and good food. The photos speak for themselves!

Thailand Day 2 - Part 1 Ayuthaya

It was an early Saturday morning when we set off for Ayuthaya...

Ayuthaya's ruins tell the story of a glorious past for Siam and it was indeed irresistable to take countless photos there...

After walking tirelessly in the cool but dusty atmosphere, we stopped by a local stall for lunch. It was indeed delicious... pork noodles, fish cake (tod mun pla) and spring rolls! Imagine... a meal of RM13.00 for 3 people! The place was packed full of locals... so you would expect it to be good!

After that quick but extremely tasty lunch, we went on to Wat Yai Chaimongkorn. The place was teeming with devotees and tourists but also exuded a lot of spiritual energy. I did not hesitate to offer some prayers.
